About autism

Autism looks different for everyone

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition involving differences in social communication and interaction, alongside patterns of restricted or repetitive behaviors, interests, or sensory experiences.

Some people are identified in early childhood, while others reach adolescence or adulthood without a formal diagnosis. Masking, compensatory strategies, and co-occurring conditions can delay identification.

Who provides evaluations: Psychological testing is provided by Mason Anglin, PsyD, a Registered Psychological Associate (PSB94029529), under the supervision of Youssef Nakhla, PsyD, a licensed psychologist (PSY 36042), at Cogniscribe Psychology.

What’s included

Built around the person

Children & teens

Functioning at home, school, and with peers, with parent or caregiver input and teacher input when appropriate.

Adults

Overlapping conditions

ADHD, anxiety, depression, learning disorders, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms are considered.

How it works

What to expect from an assessment

Initial discussion of concerns and goals

We begin with a thoughtful conversation to understand the challenges, history, and goals you (or your child) are facing, so the evaluation fits your needs.

The evaluation

Clinical interviews, standardized testing, and careful observation, paced thoughtfully so you are comfortable and the results are accurate.

Feedback session & written report

Every evaluation includes a feedback session, where results are reviewed in clear, straightforward language, and a written report with practical recommendations for next steps.

Insurance

Insurance for this evaluation

Cogniscribe Psychology works with several major insurance plans, and we typically check how your plan applies before you start. Coverage for testing and therapy varies by plan, diagnosis, and medical necessity, so we verify your benefits and any authorization before you start.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can adults be diagnosed with autism?

Yes. Autism is lifelong, but some people are not identified until adolescence or adulthood. The evaluation considers developmental history and current presentation.

Can autism and ADHD be evaluated together?

Yes. Autism and ADHD frequently co-occur, and an evaluation can examine both when clinically appropriate.

Are people who mask autistic traits evaluated?

Yes. Masking and compensatory strategies are considered as part of the broader developmental and clinical picture.

Can an autism evaluation be completed remotely?

Some components may be completed through telehealth. Whether a fully remote evaluation is appropriate depends on age, clinical needs, and assessment requirements.
